TV Show Scandal Expanded For Second Full Season
Scandal, the political drama that has kept fans on edge for a full season has just been picked up for a full second season by ABC.
ABC recently announced that it will expand the nail-biting political drama that has kept fans on the edge of their seat, to a full season, increasing its episodes from 13 to 22.
Shonda Rhimes, creator of Grey’s Anatomy, has yet another success story on her hands with Scandal being her newest show and already highly anticipated.
The show stars the talented Kerry Washington as unstoppable fixer Olivia Pope, and features the kind of drama that Shonda Rhimes is a master at writing.
Rhimes stated in an interview before the premier that the second season would start with just one season-long arc, and could maybe have 2, if the series was expanded beyond the initial 13-episode order.
“We want to keep telling stories in that manner and because we’re doing 13 episodes and if we get more than that, we’ll be telling two different season-long arcs… We came back nervous — can we top what we did last season — and now we’re all really excited because we figured out how we can.”
It premiered with an abbreviated first season in Spring 2012, and is continually growing.
The Thursday night drama has grown in audience and ratings from week to week this season, jumping 12% last week, compared to the previous episode equalling the series’ 2nd-highest-ever rating.
Holding steady with a 2.0 viewer rating among adults 18-49, the new show is now averaging 8.1 million viewers.
Considering ABC’s pickup of the show and the phenomenal ratings, it’s safe to assume a third season will be happening , which would please many of the already dedicated “Scandal junkies.”
