Actor Forest Whitaker Wrongly Accused of Stealing A Sandwich

He’s one of the most revered actors of his generation, but a shoplifter he is not.

Academy Award winner Forest Whitaker is fighting allegations that he swiped some goods off the shelf of a deli in New York City on Friday.

According to TMZ, Forest was perusing the aisles at the Milano Market in the Upper East Side when an employee approached him and made the accusation.

He then frisked the Street Kings actor in front of the other customers as if he was a common criminal.

On Wednesday the Texas born star tweeted that he’s in the Big Apple working on his latest film Black Nativity, an adaptation of Langston Hughes’ celebrated play.

The gospel musical retelling of the Bible’s nativity story also stars Jennifer Hudson and Angela Bassett.

Not surprisingly, the employee turned up no contraband on Forest’s body, and the actor left the story in a fury.

‘Frisking individuals without proof/evidence is a violation of rights,’ Whitaker’s rep told TMZ.

The statement continued: ‘This was an upsetting incident given the fact that Forest did nothing more than walk into the deli.

‘What is most unfortunate about this situation is the inappropriate way store employees are treating patrons of their establishment.’

The Last King of Scotland actor took the higher ground and didn’t call the authorities on the employee, instead reasoning with the store manager to ‘change their behaviour’ and ‘treat the public in a fair and just manner.’

Aside from his latest project, the actor is set to appear in five films this year, including the Arnold Schwarzenegger action flick The Last Stand.
