Former U.S. Secretary of State Colin Powell Visits Union City School Named After Him
American statesman Colin Powell will visit the Union City elementary school named after him next week, according to a city spokesman.
Spokesman Joe Lauro said Powell, a retired four-star general and a former U.S. secretary of state, will visit the school on Tuesday, June 4 at approximately 9:30 a.m.
The $34 million Colin Powell Elementary School opened on 15th Street last September.
Gov. Chris Christie visited the pre-K through five facility in February, where Democratic Mayor Brian Stack called the Republican governor “Numero Uno” in Union City.
The first African American to serve as secretary of state, Powell will speak to students and the media on Tuesday, Lauro said.
