MLB Star Alex Rodriguez Gets 50-Game Suspension
After news surfaced early Monday (August 5) that a dozen Major League Baseball are being suspended in the Biogenesis scandal, the fate of New York Yankees star Alex Rodriguez has been revealed — suspension.
According to ESPN.com, A-Rod has been handed down a 50-game suspension, so he will not see action again until after the 2014 season.
“I am disappointed with the penalty and intend to appeal and fight this through the process,” Rodriguez said in statement. “I am eager to get back on the field and be with my teammates in Chicago tonight. I want to thank my family, friends and fans who have stood by my side through all this.”
Rodriguez’s ban will begin Thursday (August 8) and cover the rest of the 2013 regular season, the 2013 postseason and the 2014 regular season.
“Rodriguez’s discipline under the Basic Agreement is for attempting to cover-up his violations of the program by engaging in a course of conduct intended to obstruct and frustrate the Office of the Commissioner’s investigation,” MLB commissioner Bud Selig said in the statement.
