Rihanna Performs in Baku Despite Amnesty Protests – Live Video
Rihanna performs at the Baku Crystal Hall in Baku, Azerbaijan, on Saturday, despite the urging of the human rights group Amnesty International to reconsider performing in the former Soviet republic due to their continued human rights violations.
Amnesty International and Sing for Democracy recently sent a letter to recording artist Rihanna, as well as pop star Shakira to make them aware of the unsolved, 2005 killing of a reporter, as well as, “the multiple arrests and persecution of journalists, bloggers and political activists “, and the alleged human rights abuses that is being inflicted on the people within the country.
Rihanna ignored their pleas, and performed the concert was held in Baku in celebration of the 2012 FIFA U-17 Women’s World Cup of Soccer.
Rihanna opened the concert with hit single “Only Girl (In the World)” and performed S&M, What’s My Name, and many of her hit songs throughout the concert.
However, Rihana didn’t perform her new single “Diamond”, which suprised many of her fans considering that the single’s already rising up the charts. The hit single “Diamonds”, debut at No. 16 on the Billboard Hot 100 charts and confirmed at No. 1 on the UK charts.
The multiple Grammy Awards winning R&B queen will also be embarking on her ‘Diamonds’ world tour which kicks off next March.
