A 6-month-old girl and her father are in serious-to-critical condition after they were shot multiple times outside a Chicago home on Monday.

The father, identified as 25-year-old Jonathan Watkins by DNAinfo, was changing the baby’s diaper in his car when the shooter approached from an alley and opened fire in the Woodland neighborhood on the South Side.

Dominique Young said she heard the gunshots as she walked her own kids to school.
The child, identified by relatives as Johnylah Watkins, was struck in the right shoulder and left thigh. She was undergoing surgery at a local hospital.

The dad, who police say was a member of the Gangster Disciples street gang, was hit in the cheek, leg and buttocks. He was rushed to Northwestern Medical Hospital.

Family members say this is second shooting the family has endured in recent months.
The gunman reportedly fled in a blue conversion van. Police have so far made no arrests.

Relatives say this is the second shooting the family has endured. Johnylah’s mother, Judy Watkins, 21, was shot several months ago while she was pregnant with the child.

An unidentified gunman shot at Jonathan Watkins multiple times as he changed his daughter’s diaper in his car.
“It’s too much shooting over there,” the baby’s grandmother Maryann Young told the Chicago Tribune. “I’m trying to get my kids out of there.”

Monday’s shooting is the latest episode of violence to take place in Chicago, which has been at the center of a national debate over gun control after it saw more than 40 homicides in January – the deadliest January in the city in more than a decade.
