Teenage Girl Charged As Adult For Stabbing 2 Yr Old Sister To Death
DEKALB COUNTY, GA (CBS ATLANTA) -
A 13-year-old girl is being charged as an adult in the death of her 2-year-old stepsister.
Police said Tyasia Jackson is being charged with murder.
Jackson’s stepfather, Shelton Latroy Ray, told CBS Atlanta News that he is the biological father of Sasha Lemaya Ray, 2, who was found dead Monday afternoon outside their townhome on North Waldrop Trail near Decatur.
According to investigators, Jackson was babysitting Sasha. At the time, other kids were inside the home, and both parents were at work.
According to Ray, Jackson called him Monday around 11 p.m. from jail and confessed to the murder.
Ray said Jackson was caught with a boy inside the townhome while he and her mother were away from the house.
A neighbor went to the home and found the boy hiding inside a closet. The neighbor told Jackson that the boy had to leave the home.
Ray said Jackson told him that after the boy and other friends left, Jackson asked for her siblings to go upstairs and kept 2-year-old Sasha downstairs.
Jackson told Ray she then took Sasha towards the back door of the home and stabbed her seven times in the chest. She then threw Sasha’s body over the balcony.
When her parents returned home, Ray said they asked Jackson where Sasha was and began looking for her.
Ray and Jackson’s mother found Sasha’s body in the backyard with serious injuries and attempted to take her the hospital. Before they reached the end of their subdivision, Sasha died.
Investigators said that Sasha suffered injuries on her body that were not accidental but did not disclose a cause of death.
Neighbors were shocked to hear that a 2-year-old was killed.
“It is really upsetting. When I heard it I wanted to cry, because it is someone so innocent,” Jose Aguilar said. “They can’t even defend themselves or talk. It is just sad.”
Other neighbors said Jackson was very pleasant and well mannered. One neighbor said she would walk some of her younger siblings to the bus stop every morning.
Ray had this message for Jackson.
“If I could say anything to her, all I would say is what you did was wrong, and there are going to be some consequences you have to face,” Ray said. “We are going to help you along the way while you face those consequences. But you have to change your attitude. As I’ve always told you, you have to change your attitude.”
